Question Can I leave a honey/olive oil treatment in over night?

I just put a mixture of olive oil and honey into my hair, for deep moisturizing. Now I am wondering if I could leave it in over night, under a plastic cap. I have never used honey, so I'm not sure. I assume it can't be damaging, but I would just like to know if anybody has ever done this, and with what results. TIA!

Re: Can I leave a honey/olive oil treatment in over night?

I used to oil my hair overnight with no real problems. I don't anymore simply because it's too much hassle, and it works better if I oil just my scalp a couple hours before a shower, douse my dry hair in conditioner and CO out. When I oiled overnight, I always tried to shampoo out, and I think that was my main failure. Shampoo just won't get my greasies out.

I tried a mixture of honey and olive oil once. Again, no real issues there. My hair likes honey, but it was more trouble than it was worth because honey and oil don't mix very well and I couldn't spread it very well as a result.

I would try EITHER oiling, or using honey. Honey by itself is too sticky, so mix it with a thick, moisturizing conditioner. I would say either apply this to slightly wet hair or mix with a bit of water and apply to dry hair. I find that my hair takes conditioner better on dry hair, though. You could also try mixing oil, conditioner, and honey. That's the only way I can ever get honey and oil to mix to a spreadable consistency.

yes you can. I have put olive oil, honey and egg in my hair over night and the results were very good.

I think you can do it, just be careful with the ants if you use honey.

Re: Can I leave a honey/olive oil treatment in over night?

I've left honey and conditioner with a tad of oil on under a plastic bag over night before now, and it worked rather nicely. Must admit the honey was a bit of a concern but the plastic bag kept anything from drying out too much and getting sticky. Washed out easy in the morning.
I say go for it, it should be fine!
Hope this helps!

Re: Can I leave a honey/olive oil treatment in over night?

I had honey, (cone free) conditioner and coconut oil on my hair last night under a plastic bag for an hour and a half. It was soooooooooo gorgeous when I washed it out and my hair dried naturally with out combing or anything and it looked like I had blow dried and styled it, my hair looks fantastic today.

I love honey and coconut oil!!!

No worries mugglemom I hope it works as well for you as it did me.

I never cease to be amazed at how easily honey washes out of your hair. You would kinda expect your hair to be all matted and sticky.

Re: Can I leave a honey/olive oil treatment in over night?

Thank you all for your responses. I had actually washed out the stuff from my hair last night... It was just to sticky to sleep with. My hair felt o.k., but it still didn't get rid of the crunchiness that I have ever since I got protein overload or some other kind of overconditioning from my CO experiment (I clarifyed several times, but still not as it was before).
